The Russian-lipovans living in Romania, counting 35791 (according to the 2002 census) are mainly concentrated in the eastern part of the country, in Dobrogea and Moldavia. Over two thirds of the total live near the major hydrographic units (the Danube River, the Razim-Sinoe Lagoon, the Black Sea).

Slava Rusa, Tulcea County

Most of Russian-lipovans are concentrated in Dobrogea region (more than two thirds of the total). The second largest region for the Russian lipovans geographical distribution is Moldavia (18% of the total).

Regarding the Russian lipovans distribution by counties, Tulcea county stands out, as it counts almost half of the total Russian lipovans population (16350 people). It is followed by Constanta, Iasi, Suceava, Braila and so on.

Manolea, Suceava County

The most important localities from Dobrogea with a significant Russian lipovans population are: Tulcea, Sarichioi, Carcaliu, Jurilovca, Slava Cercheza, Slava Rusa from Tulcea county and Ghindaresti, Constanta, Navodari from Constanta county.
For Moldavia the following localities stand out: Targu Frumos, Bratesti – Iasi county, Manolea, Climauti, Lipoveni – Suceava county.

A distinctive feature is the fact that Russian lipovans are often associated with the Danube Delta. But the truth is that only 4.3% of the Russian-lipovans live here, so we consider this association wrong. In the Danube Delta there are only three villages with absolute majority of Russian-lipovans: Sfistovca, Periprava, Mila 23. In a smaller percentage, Russian-lipovans live in Sulina, Chilia Veche, Mahmudia.
The association of Russian lipovans with the delta region is because of the impact of mass-media, the fishing activities in the Danube Delta of the Russian lipovans living in Tulcea county and also because of the impressions of the tourists who get in touch with the Russian-lipovans fishermen from the delta region.
